LEANNE Oldfield reveals masterly control of brush stroke and light and shade in a further depiction of her Bush Banana Dreaming. With an astonishing level of skill she renders the Yuparli Jukurrupa that grow in the Tanami desert country on the vines of the Bush Banana tree. The trees and vines are especially prolific around water holes and become more abundant after rain.
The green long oval shaped fruit is very sweet. Says Leanne: 'Yuparli are very healthy for us and we like to collect them for everyone. The old people like them too. Sometimes we put them on the coals and warm them up. They grow up fast after rain in the bush and we take the kids out to collect them.'
This second depiction of Yuparli Jukurrupa, is more formalist in structure with Leanne wielding her brush again with mesmerising skill.
