JOSHUA is a proud young Ramindjeri man from the Ngarrindjeri nation, the traditional Aboriginal people of the lower Murray River, eastern Fleurieu Peninsula, and the length of the Coorong.
His father gave Joshua grounding and knowledge in traditions and painting that he has evolved into a style that is all his own. He paints celebration and times of community joy as his contribution to Country.
Here we see the meeting site and the camps around it, the main sacred places connected with the paths of the Songlines.
Josh tells the story behind this painting:
'At certain times of the year the various clans of the Ramindjeri would gather at the main site called Ramong where they would celebrate their connection to the sea. There would be an abundance of food, celebration, dance and song. Ramindjeri were excellent hunters and fishermen.'
