BARBARA Milpati Baker was born in 1962 in Yalata, along the road from Ceduna, South Australia.
Her father had travelled south to Yalata to meet Milpati's mother from Tjuntjuntjara in Western Australia. As a young girl Milpati moved with her father from their home to Indulkana, a small town on the edge of the APY Lands.
She finished her education at Yirara College in Alice Springs and soon after married Anton Baker, the son of the trailblazing Jimmy Baker.
With this heightened artistic atmosphere, the couple then moved to Fregon to help set up the Fregon craft room. In the early eighties she moved with her family to Kanpi, up in the north-western corner of the APY Lands, to be closer to her husband and father's country.
Barbara paints her dreamings from her grandmother's country near Watarru, still in the APY Lands, and currently lives in Adelaide.
