INITIALLY she used a large brush to create brush strokes reminiscent of her totem, the Yam, but it is her intricate monochrome views of country that have brought Anna the most acclaim.
Anna Price Pitjara is from Atneltye in the homelands region of Utopia, some 240km north-east of Alice Springs. While Anna, born in 1960, is the daughter of the late Glory Ngarla and niece to the late, great artist, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, she learned to paint under the wing of Gloria Petyarre.
In her work Anna places small white dots to depict the features of her country and in turn creates a visual rhythm through this repetition.
Her work is now highly sought after and any collection of Indigenous art should include at least one or several Anna Pitjara paintings as many lovers of the art worldwide will tell you.
