Barbara is an Anmatyerre woman, who moved to her father's lands of Ti-Tree in the Northern Territory, in the midst of her high school education. There she took a job as an Aboriginal Education Worker in a preschool and later moved to Amata in the APY Lands to live with her husband and begin a new career as a healthcare worker.
She began painting at Amata's Tjala Arts in April 2003 and, since then, her work has received widespread recognition, winning a National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2012. Known also as the Telstra Award, she has been a finalist in many other years. Moore has also been a finalist for the Wynne Prize, awarded by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Family as a huge motivator in her work and career, saying that “for us, the role of an artist is a respected position. It’s one that our children and grandchildren look up to and one they aspire to be. I’m making a path for my children.”
All her paintings are called Ngayuku Ngura, reflecting the lands she comes from, her family connections, memories and landmarks.
