Seven Sisters Dreaming

THE SEVEN Sisters Story spans communities throughout the continent and here Justinna Naparljarri Sims depicts the seven ancestral Napaljarri Sisters as they travel across the country. As they gather their food and medicines a man known as Wati Nyiru, a Jakamarra man, pursues them, having fallen in love with one of the sisters. Being of the wrong tribe to marry the sister, he is relentless in his pursuit, using his magic to appear as trees, flowers and rock holes while the Sisters engage their own magic to evade him.

They finally fly free of the Jakamarra man, into the night sky to become the Constellation Pleiades. Although Wati Nyiru was able to follow he became Orion’s Belt. As Pleiades rises first, so Orion’s belt follows and Wati Nyiru, is doomed to the same fate … Always following and never catching …
