PATRICIA'S family country is Kalipinypa, where this mesmerising piece of art depicts the Tali (sandhills), north-east of Kintore. Having grown up watching her father Long Jack Phillipus paint, she decided to try it herself. She continued her practice in between working at the local school and looking after her five children. She took time out to care for her husband and only returned to the canvas in 2017 to continue her impressive Tali depictions.
Kalipinypa is an important Water Dreaming site with many artists in Patricia's family painting different aspects of this story. Her sister Charlotte Phillipus, herself an established artist and director of Papunya Tjupi, also focusses her attention on the dry sandhills. When the rain finally comes, it is usually as a vivid and wild thunderstorm with flashes of lightning.
